To ensure transparency and fairness in how we manage diesel cost volatility, we base our fuel surcharge on the Road Haulage Association’s (RHA) national average bulk diesel price, published weekly.
March 2026 Update
The RHA publishes a weekly report showing bulk diesel prices for the week ending each Friday. This includes the national average bulk diesel ppl, compiled as of Friday when the survey closes.
Each Monday, we:
Take the RHA national average bulk diesel price for the previous week (ending Friday).
Apply our existing surcharge band corresponding to that price level.
Set the surcharge for all work carried out Monday–Sunday.
This ensures the surcharge reflects real fuel market conditions in a timely and accurate way, particularly during periods of exceptional volatility.

Will we return to monthly surcharges?
Yes , we hope to return to a monthly surcharge once the fuel market stabilises. For now, the weekly RHA data provides the most accurate and responsible basis on which to calculate the surcharge.
Historic Fuel Surcharges (March 2022 to mid-March 2026):
During this time, the surcharge was calculated using the average of all weekly RHA national averages for that month. This monthly average then determined the fuel surcharge applied to the following month’s charges.
The surcharge was only applied to costs above the RHA 2021 average of 103.27ppl. We checked the published RHA average every month and applied this to the following month’s charges.
